Exploring the Treasures of Cambodia

This website is about Cambodia and can include any topic from the ancient history of the Angkor empire with its hundreds of temples to the perfect lazy beach along the south west coast of the country. As this is a wiki system, articles can be published here as well as edited by anyone.

  About Cambodia

The tropical country of Cambodia lies in south-east Asia and is enclosed by Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and the Gulf of Thailand. The impressive Mekong river fights its way from the north of the country towards Vietnam. 90% of the 13 million Cambodians belong to the ethnic group Khmer. Buddhism is practised by 97% of the population.

Over the last years Cambodia has established itself as a must-visit country in the south-east Asian region. Cambodia has many attractions - an interesting ancient and modern history, beautiful nature and charming, friendly locals. Beside its capital Phnom Penh other touristic important destinations are Siem Reap, Battambang and Sihanoukville. Siem Reap is the best starting point to visit the surely most important station of each Cambodian travel - the Angkor Wat, the largest temple of the Angkor complex. A fun experience might be a short ride on the "Bamboo Train" starting from Battambang. Sihanoukville is a preferred beach destinations for tourists and locals alike. Many offshore islands offer beach recreation. The Ream National Park is located near Sihanoukville and is well known for mangrove forests, unspoilt beaches and idyllic villages.

Although Cambodia is an all year round destination, the best time to visit is the cold dry season from November to February, when the sun shines almost every day and the temperature does not climb above 30?C.
